ABOUT US
SAVE THE RIVER / SAVE THE HILLS, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) grassroots
environmental organization based on the Niantic River Estuary in Waterford
& East Lyme, Connecticut.
The mission of the organization is to abate and prevent pollution of the
river by:
- operating a pumpout boat
- advocating the preservation of the Oswegatchie Hills
- advocating sewers for East Lyme waterfont neighborhoods
- encouraging the towns of Waterford and East Lyme to fulfil their obligations
under the Federal Phase II Storm Water Regulations.
- creating Niantic River Day and Kayak Regatta
A new environmental organization has been established in Southeastern
Connecticut--an organization dedicated to preserving the health of the
Niantic River Estuary and the natural beauty of the Oswegatchie Hills.
If you're familiar with the efforts to clean up Long Island Sound you
know that the well-being of its tidal estuaries is crucial to that undertaking.
Today both our river and our hills are facing a major crisis--the threat
of development of an 800+ unit condominium complex.
We are working to insure that the Niantic River becomes and remains as
unpolluted as possible and that the Oswegatchie Hills remain unspoiled.
Save the River-Save the Hills Inc. has the support of the Connecticut
Department of Environmental Protection, The Connecticut Sierra Club and
the Friends of the Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve.
Contributions to Save The River-Save The Hills, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, are tax deductible.
